Thomas Adams School and Sixth Form

About Thomas Adams School and Sixth Form

Thomas Adams School is a thriving co-educational community school, sixth form, and boarding house, located in the heart of Wem. With a history dating back to 1650, when Sir Thomas Adams founded the Free School of Wem, we are proud of our long-standing tradition of excellence in education.

Set within a 30-acre campus, our school provides a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. Lowe Hill caters to students in Years 7-11, offering excellent facilities across all subject areas. Our Sixth Form is based at Noble Street, within the characterful grammar school building, providing a focused and supportive setting for post-16 education.

Adams House, our well-established boarding house, welcomes up to 65 students from the UK and beyond. With dedicated staff providing outstanding pastoral care, our boarders benefit from a safe, nurturing and inspiring home away from home.

At Thomas Adams, our core values are respect, resilience, and success. With around 1,200 students, many from the surrounding rural areas, we remain firmly rooted in our community. We are proud to maintain a community school ethos and belief, aiming to help all students of all abilities fulfil their potential.

Since joining The 3-18 Education Trust in 2020, we have continued to grow, benefitting from significant investment in our facilities including fire safety, IT infrastructure, and a new student support building. We also have the opportunity to collaborate with other schools.

We are proud of our strong links with The Drapers’ Company, a historic London livery company with a long tradition of supporting education, which continues to provide invaluable support to our school. Together, we create an environment where students flourish academically and personally, truly growing together, fulfilling potential.

Headteacher, Mark Cooper

On Thursday 17th July, our students Catherine, Aaron and Noah represented Thomas Adams School at the annual Drapers’ Company Church Service at St Michael’s Church, Cornhill, along with Headteacher Mr Cooper.

After the service, they were invited to Drapers’ Hall for a special lunch where they met members of the Drapers’ Company and students from other Drapers’ schools. They also enjoyed a guided tour of the beautiful and historic Drapers’ Hall.

A fantastic opportunity and an honour to be part of this long-standing tradition. Well done to all involved!
