About Thomas Adams School and Sixth Form
Thomas Adams School is a thriving co-educational community school, sixth form, and boarding house, located in the heart of Wem. With a history dating back to 1650, when Sir Thomas Adams founded the Free School of Wem, we are proud of our long-standing tradition of excellence in education.
Set within a 30-acre campus, our school provides a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. Lowe Hill caters to students in Years 7-11, offering excellent facilities across all subject areas. Our Sixth Form is based at Noble Street, within the characterful grammar school building, providing a focused and supportive setting for post-16 education.
Adams House, our well-established boarding house, welcomes up to 65 students from the UK and beyond. With dedicated staff providing outstanding pastoral care, our boarders benefit from a safe, nurturing and inspiring home away from home.
At Thomas Adams, our core values are respect, resilience, and success. With around 1,200 students, many from the surrounding rural areas, we remain firmly rooted in our community. We are proud to maintain a community school ethos and belief, aiming to help all students of all abilities fulfil their potential.
Since joining The 3-18 Education Trust in 2020, we have continued to grow, benefitting from significant investment in our facilities including fire safety, IT infrastructure, and a new student support building. We also have the opportunity to collaborate with other schools.
We are proud of our strong links with The Drapers’ Company, a historic London livery company with a long tradition of supporting education, which continues to provide invaluable support to our school. Together, we create an environment where students flourish academically and personally, truly growing together, fulfilling potential.

🎭 GCSE & A Level Drama Theatre Trip to Birmingham
Last Thursday, our Year 10–13 GCSE Drama and A Level Drama students enjoyed a theatre visit to the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham to see The Woman in Black.
Based on Susan Hill’s renowned ghost story, the production is famous for its powerful atmosphere and minimalist staging, using lighting, sound, and performance to create tension and suspense. Students were fully engaged throughout and gained valuable insight into professional live theatre, supporting their GCSE and A Level drama studies.
A memorable and enriching cultural experience for all involved. ... See MoreSee Less
