Thomas Adams School and Sixth Form

About Thomas Adams School and Sixth Form

Thomas Adams School is a thriving co-educational community school, sixth form, and boarding house, located in the heart of Wem. With a history dating back to 1650, when Sir Thomas Adams founded the Free School of Wem, we are proud of our long-standing tradition of excellence in education.

Set within a 30-acre campus, our school provides a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. Lowe Hill caters to students in Years 7-11, offering excellent facilities across all subject areas. Our Sixth Form is based at Noble Street, within the characterful grammar school building, providing a focused and supportive setting for post-16 education.

Adams House, our well-established boarding house, welcomes up to 65 students from the UK and beyond. With dedicated staff providing outstanding pastoral care, our boarders benefit from a safe, nurturing and inspiring home away from home.

At Thomas Adams, our core values are respect, resilience, and success. With around 1,200 students, many from the surrounding rural areas, we remain firmly rooted in our community. We are proud to maintain a community school ethos and belief, aiming to help all students of all abilities fulfil their potential.

Since joining The 3-18 Education Trust in 2020, we have continued to grow, benefitting from significant investment in our facilities including fire safety, IT infrastructure, and a new student support building. We also have the opportunity to collaborate with other schools.

We are proud of our strong links with The Drapers’ Company, a historic London livery company with a long tradition of supporting education, which continues to provide invaluable support to our school. Together, we create an environment where students flourish academically and personally, truly growing together, fulfilling potential.

A huge thank you to Andy and Phil from Youth Support for delivering the two-day Below the Belt workshop to some of our Year 9 students.

The workshop is designed to support young men whose education may be affected by challenges such as low attendance, risk-taking behaviour, or disengagement in school. Led by experienced Youth and Community workers, the sessions provide a safe, conversation-based space for students to explore issues that impact their lives — including relationships with peers and females, mental health, attitudes, and behaviour.

This collaborative approach between the workshop team and our school aims to re-engage students and offer them better opportunities to thrive in their education.

Champions Alert!

We’re thrilled to share that our U13 mixed team have been crowned NFL Flag Football West Midlands Champions! 🏆 Their incredible performance means they’ve now qualified for the National Finals in June — what a journey ahead!

👏 A massive well done to our U15 Girls team, who gave it their all and secured an impressive second place, missing out on the win by just two points. An amazing achievement!

💥 Special congratulations to Dylan, representing the Kansas City Chiefs, who was awarded MVP by the referees for his standout performance as quarterback. A well-deserved recognition!

This dedicated group has trained tirelessly — giving up their breaks, lunchtimes, and after-school hours to prepare. Their commitment and teamwork have been inspiring, and their success is a reflection of that hard work.

Nationals, here we come!
