Career Journey – Tim Alexander

Name: Tim Alexander

Current Position: IT Manager

Previous Positions: IT Technician, Senior Trust IT Technician

What is your current role, and what does it involve? As IT Manager, I am responsible for managing IT projects, supporting, and advising school IT technicians and business managers, managing Trust software licensing, overseeing external IT support, financial planning, providing staff training, and identifying new areas for IT service development.

What has been your journey from your first role within the education sector, to your current role? I started working as the IT Technician at Priory School in 2013 and alongside the Network Manager, I upgraded and improved IT systems within the school from network infrastructure to desktop provisioning and support.

Over the years I took on increasing responsibility within the school and began to implement systems for device imaging, software deployment and mobile device management (MDM).

I joined the Trust as the senior IT technician in January 2021, providing support and guidance to school technicians and business managers across the trust.

Starting in 2022 the Trust began migrating all schools to a new managed IT platform, and I oversaw the implementation of this. In April 2024 I became the Trust IT Manager and continue to manage the migration process for our new school, support our schools and develop new systems.

What do you most enjoy about your job in school? As an IT Manager, I enjoy the variety and challenge that my job offers. Every day is different and gives me a chance to further my technical understanding and problem-solving skills. I receive excellent support and guidance from my colleagues, which enables me to continue working to improve IT services for everyone across the Trust.

What does it mean to be part of The 3 – 18 Education Trust? The Trust has helped me grow during my 11 years in Education, and I could never have pushed past my old limits without their backing and encouragement. I am now accomplishing things that had previously seemed impossible and I proud to be a member of the Central Team.
