Adrianne Darrell

Behaviour

Adrianne has developed tools to support young people with concerns around SEMH (e.g. suicide and self-harm).  She is keen to share her strategies and resources with others and could lead CPD relating to behaviour management/pastoral support for students.

I have been a Maths teacher at Thomas Adams for the last 9 years, and part of the Pastoral team for 8 of these. Within this time, I have experienced many roles and worked as an Assistant Head of Year to Head of Year to now fulfilling the role of Senior Head of Year. This role allows me to maintain ownership of my own year group whilst also overseeing behaviour in the other year groups, as well as contributing to a team developing and implementing processes to support policies across the school. Within this role, I have been given the opportunity to deliver a number of staff training sessions around behaviour both in and outside of lessons. For example, one session specifically looked at how to de-escalate a situation with a young person who is displaying dysregulated behaviour. Additionally, one of the large strands within my role has been looking at supporting the mental health of young people which led to the delivery of a session at our 318 Conference in October 2023. Within my own school, as well as developing procedures within the Crisis Team at Thomas Adams for dealing with pupils presenting with higher level SEMH issues, I have completed a course to become a Mental Health First Aider and have more recently completed my DSL training.
