Teaching assistants at The 3-18 Education Trust are now able to specialise in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) by undertaking a new Level 3 qualification.
Offering enhanced professional development for our support staff is one of the key priorities of The 3-18 Education Trust’s people strategy. By developing our teaching assistants, we will ensure that there is targeted SEND support available across our family of schools. The 18-month courses are fully funded through the Trust’s apprenticeship levy.
Abigail Salter, EYFS Teaching Assistant at Coleham Primary School in Shrewsbury is undertaking her qualification this year. Here, Abigail explains her motivations for taking the course.
“As I am still new to working in education, I hope to learn more skills and techniques to help me better support the children and staff around me. I also hope to gain a better understanding of how to support SEND children when they are dysregulated.
I have really enjoyed the variety of resources provided by the course, including the masterclasses, and the recommended videos, podcasts and reading materials. I feel that these have helped me to build my knowledge of both SEND and working in education and have helped me to improve my performance in my role.
I already feel better equipped to face situations in the classroom or on the playground, allowing me to figure out solutions that provide better outcomes for the children.
This qualification will help me build my confidence, which will help me to work better in the classroom and will create a strong foundation for me to build my future career upon.”
