Commemorating Remembrance Day and Armistice Day across our family of schools

A round up of how schools across our Trust have commemorated Remembrance Day and Armistice Day 2024 in their local communities.

Bowbrook Primary School

Reception and Year 1 pupils visited Oxon Parish Church in Shrewsbury for the first time.

Reverend Charlotte showed the children around the church and taught them all about the importance of Remembrance Day.

Bridgnorth Endowed School

Normal daily activity was halted to remember the fallen from the two world wars and other conflicts.

Headteacher, Mr Penn, led the proceedings, ahead of Head Girl, Mia Wain, and Head Boy, Matthew Brown, reciting a poem called ‘Remember Me’.

A group of students laid wooden poppy crosses in front of the Old Hall and at the school’s war memorial in the Joseph Barritt Centre.

Coleham Primary School

Pupils from Coleham Primary School and The Priory School attended a Remembrance Service at the War Graves at Longden Road Cemetery in Shrewsbury.

Students from Shrewsbury Colleges Group also joined to represent young people in Shropshire.

Hodnet Primary School

Reception class pupils laid a handmade wreath at the local cenotaph.

In assembly, the children observed a two minute silence and listened to Nimrod.

Much Wenlock Primary School

Pupils visited the town’s old cemetery to place poppies on the graves of those who have lost their lives serving in wars.

The children read out poems they had written themselves.

Much Wenlock Town Mayor, Councillor Marcus Themans, also attended the visit.

The Priory School

Students attended the Royal British Legion’s Remembrance Service at Longden Cemetery, with our Head of History. The service was led by the local vicar, with poems, bible readings and speeches performed, and our students reading the bidding prayers. The Mayor of Shrewsbury was present together with other schools, including Coleham and Shrewsbury College.

Today, the deputy head and school captains addressed the whole school on the playground, with one of our pupils playing the Last Post to signify the start and end of the two minute silence.

St Martins 3-16 School

30 cadets from the St Martins School Combined Cadet Force took part in the village ceremony on Remembrance Sunday.

In school today, our primary choir sang and pupil, Noah Holmes, played the Last Post.

Thomas Adams School

Year 10 Textiles students designed and produced a stunning collection of dresses inspired by Remembrance Day. The four dresses are now proudly on display in the school reception area.

Year 11 student, Oscar, represented the school at the Wem Remembrance service. He laid a wreath on behalf of the school and read the names of the fallen from the Great War.

Pupils including air and army cadets observed a two minute silence, with one student chosen to play the Last Post.
