Sarah Woosnam, Office Coordinator at Bowbrook Primary School, explains how an apprenticeship is supporting her future career progression.
Name: Sarah Woosnam
School: Bowbrook Primary School
Current role: Office Coordinator
Training course: Level 4 School Business Professional
What are your motivations for starting an apprenticeship?
“Having moved from a 16-year career in banking and finance, I felt like I needed to learn more about school business management. This was the perfect solution for me as the qualification will help with my knowledge and skills and also support future career progression.”
How is this helping with your current role?
“It means I can support the School Business Manager with additional tasks and help our team, parents and children in the best way possible.”
How will the apprenticeship support your future career development?
“I am hoping it will give me the knowledge and skills to be ready to apply for a Business Manager Role in the future. My apprenticeship is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management which means it is a recognised qualification.”
What you are your tips for balancing work and study?
“Prioritise your off the job hours. I have half a day a week to work on my apprenticeship which really helps. I make sure I use the time wisely. I ensure I am as focused as possible ready to complete my work.
Apprenticeships are a great way to gain additional qualifications. I feel grateful that I haven’t had to fund this opportunity myself. It fits around work and my home life. I would encourage anyone looking to gain additional skills and qualifications to consider an apprenticeship.”
