Career Journey – Liz Tinsley

Name: Liz Tinsley

Current Position: Student Support Officer, Lac coordinator, DSL at The Priory School

Previous Positions: Learning Mentor Student Support at Priory School

What is your current role, and what does it involve?

Safeguarding students in school, overseeing the student support department to support the pastoral needs of students at Priory,  and championing the needs of looked after children in school.

What has been your journey from your first role within the education sector, to your current role?

I was a learning mentor in the classroom supporting disaffected students when I started 13 years ago, working in a team of two in a tiny office.  I then completed safeguarding lead training and moved to supporting students outside the classroom. Two years ago I took over as department lead. Now I have a fascinating role overseeing a team of four in the D5, with the space to be able to support students inside and outside the classroom, and work with their families and outside agencies to help our students stay safe and fulfil their potential.

What do you most enjoy about your job in school?

It’s varied, everyday is different. I work with a skilled, enthusiastic and hard work team who are all dedicated to supporting the students at Priory. I also so grateful to feel part of the wider Priory staff team, with their total support for the work that we do.

What does it mean to be part of The 3 – 18 Education Trust?

I am immensely proud to be part of the wider trust, and it has been positive to have the whole trust’s support for Priory.
