Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

Our Commitment

The 3–18 Education Trust is committed to the development of all our staff.  Our aim is to promote a culture of continuous professional development by empowering our colleagues to learn, develop their own practice, innovate and share knowledge with colleagues within our schools and beyond.

Recruit - Develop - Retain

Recruit

Our ambition is to be the employer of choice in our county.  We are passionate about recruiting and retaining high performing and committed staff who can deliver excellent outcomes for our pupils.  Our School Led Teacher Training programme (Salop Teaching Partnership) offers an exciting opportunity for aspiring teachers to train alongside outstanding practitioners, gaining valuable skills, knowledge and professional attitudes.  Our teacher training programme has a strong record of recruiting, developing and retaining new teachers who strengthen our Trust year on year and our support staff career pathways empower our dedicated staff to thrive and grow within our Trust.

Develop

We are passionate about ensuring that all staff have the opportunity to develop and pursue their ambition to progress in their careers.  We place a huge emphasis on collaboration; by giving our teachers, support staff and leaders time to share best practice and learn together, we develop as professionals.  In addition, it is our priority to provide high quality professional development to all staff at all stages of their career.    We utilise the knowledge and expertise of our Trust Improvement Consultants to facilitate a wide range of training opportunities, aiming to keep the skills of all staff fresh and develop competence.  Our external partnerships also allow us to offer a broad range of development opportunities including National Professional Qualifications, apprenticeships and coaching.

Our Aspire Leaders programme is aimed at potential leaders within our schools who want to learn more about becoming successful leaders and progressing onto the next stage in their career journey.  We believe that effective leadership is essential for sustainable school improvement and are determined to recruit, develop and retain the best leaders in our schools.

Retain

As a trust, we aim to harness the abundance of skill and experience we have within our current workforce and identify new talent to take us to the next step in our journey.  Succession planning is important to us so that we are able to retain our high quality staff within our schools and ensure that those staff feel empowered to develop their careers further, whilst always feeling valued and motivated.

3-18 Leadership Development

We are passionate about ensuring that all staff have the opportunity to develop and pursue their ambition to progress in their careers.   Our external partnerships allow us to offer a broad range of development opportunities including National Professional Qualifications, and we actively encourage middle, senior and head teachers to take part in courses such as: NPQSL, NPQH, NPQEL, to further develop their skills and knowledge and, of course to develop networks and further collaborate both inside and outside our trust.

In addition, we offer our aspiring leaders our own leadership programme, The Aspire Programme. This is underpinned by our Trust values and is an exciting, high-level programme for both support staff and teaching staff, which aims to bring individuals together, from across the Trust, to collaborate and grow together. Specialists in leadership and associated subjects facilitate this dynamic programme, where action learning is a strong component. The skills and characteristics developed by participants on this programme is transferable back into their teams and departments to drive improvement and the careers of our participants can be enhanced as a result of attending the programme.

At The 3-18 Education Trust, our Trust Improvement Consultants have developed a bank of training courses to support our schools to develop in key areas.

These consultants are also able to provide bespoke support to individual schools by providing face to face visits, reviews, carrying out observations and supporting departments to create action plans.

Our Coaching Programme

Here at the 3 – 18 Education Trust, we offer an extensive coaching programme in order to develop and assist our middle and senior leaders to achieve specific personal or professional goals by providing training, guidance, challenge and support.  Our programme offers training in how to be a coach within schools and also provides individuals with regular coaching sessions to support them to achieve their goals and be part of a high performing team.

As part of this programme, our headteachers and our central team also take part in 360 reviews, focusing on strengths and development areas by providing each other with high quality, detailed feedback which is fed back via a coaching session.

3-18 Apprenticeship Pathway

We actively engage with the Apprenticeship Levy, which provides our Trust with a powerful opportunity to invest in talent development with our current workforce and which also provides the opportunity to bring in fresh talent.

Through the levy, we are able to fully fund professional qualifications for all our staff; ranging from diplomas, through to professional qualifications, including both at degree and masters level. This not only fills any skills gaps but provides our staff with personal development opportunities within their profession.
